Lee Attwater and Republican Race Strategy

Sometimes I get into conversations about the politics of race in America and find it difficult to explain the basis of the nastiness the problem and how we all got to this in the first place. Lee Attwater was a pioneer in how to throw racial rocks and hide his hand, so the speak. I think that its a great idea to let him explain in a few words what his strategy was and how easy it was and is to get large swaths of people to buy into his little plan. The Nation Magazine found and published this little nugget but I'll just let him speak for himself.

As you can see, Karl Rove may have spiffed it up a little before he rolled it out for GW Bush, but its still the same old model.
